I Am Accepted Because I Am a Friend of God

John 15:15 – “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

When Jesus calls us His friends, it reveals a deep truth about our identity in Him. We are not simply servants obeying orders—we are invited into a special relationship where He shares His heart and His mission with us. As His disciples, we are entrusted with knowledge of His love, salvation, and His plan to bring righteousness and justice to this world.

Friendship with God means closeness. Just like a true friend, Jesus promises to always be with us, walking beside us through every season of life. There is a special joy and gladness that comes from being near Him, a joy that cannot be taken away. He cares for us with a faithful love, and as we grow closer, we begin to recognize His voice and follow His leading personally.

If you feel rejected by others or weighed down by loneliness, remember this truth: God doesn’t just want your obedience, He desires your friendship. He wants to be closer to you than a brother, to walk with you in intimacy and love. If He feels distant, take time to examine your heart. Are you walking closely with Him, or have distractions and sin pushed Him away?

Being God’s friend is not only about receiving His love but also about joining Him in His work. He empowers us to do extraordinary things in His name—works that reflect His power and compassion. Jesus even said, “You will do greater works than these.” That is the privilege of friendship with the King of kings.

Today, rest in the acceptance that comes from being a friend of God. Walk with Him, listen to His voice, and let your life reflect the joy of that friendship.

Reflection: Take a moment to think about how you view your relationship with God. Do you see Him only as a distant ruler, or do you enjoy Him as a close and loving friend?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for calling me Your friend. Help me to walk closely with You, to hear Your voice, and to share in the joy of Your presence. Remove anything that keeps me distant, and empower me to live faithfully as Your friend and servant. Amen.
